These delicate nut, candied fruit and chocolate biscuits go perfectly with coffee at the end of a dinner party. They could also work well as a sweet canapé at a wedding. Just make sure you make plenty – they’re bound to be popular and are incredibly moreish.

Keep a close eye on them when they’re in the oven as they can burn quickly.

55g butter

55g caster sugar

2 teaspoons clear honey

55g plain flour

45g chopped mixed peel

45g glace cherries

45g blanched almonds, chopped

85g plain chocolate, melted

Set your oven to 180 ?and line a baking tray with baking parchment.

Melt the butter, sugar and honey together. Remove from the heat and stir in the peel, cherries and almonds. Stir.

Drop teaspoonfuls of the mixture onto the baking tray. Leave plenty of space between them, as they’ll spread. Flatten them slightly with the back of a spoon.

Bake for 8-10 minutes until golden. Leave to cool.

When cold, spread the flat side of the biscuits with melted chocolate. Leave to set.
